The backcountry's AI guy.

AI where it helps. Straight talk where it doesn't.

I'm Erick Tronboll — and out here, I'm the AI guy. Rural business owners are getting buried in AI hype from people who've never built anything. I build AI in production, up this mountain, for your neighbors — so the counsel you get from me is honest, grounded, and yours. Ask me a question free, book an audit, or have me wire AI into the systems you already run.

Ask the AI Guy.

Bring me the question you've been sitting on — what AI could do for your books, your bookings, your compliance paperwork. You'll get an honest answer within one business day.

No charge. No sales call. Sometimes the honest answer is “you don't need it yet” — and if that's the answer, that's what you'll hear. Same way I answer the emergency line: help first, work later.

The AI Readiness Audit

Know exactly where AI pays off.

A fixed-scope walk-through of how your business actually runs, and a short written report you keep. What you get:

Where AI pays off first — the highest-leverage places to start.
What to skip — where AI is hype, not help, for your operation.
Data-safety basics — what’s safe to hand a model, and what isn’t.
A roadmap, priced for a backcountry business — phases, not a blank check.

Priced per operation — tell me what you run and I'll quote the audit.

Integrate

Keep the systems you like.

Already have software that works? Keep it. A lot of the best AI work is wiring Claude and Grok into the tools you already run — no rip-and-replace.

Your booking system

Claude answers guest questions and drafts replies — inside the tool you already use.

Your books

Grok watches for the numbers that matter and flags them before they become a problem.

Your inbox

An assistant that triages what comes in and drafts responses in your voice, not a robot’s.

Not slideware — AI in production for your neighbors. Open any of these and it's running right now.

You're talking to it right now — the chat bubble in the corner is my AI. Ask it anything about BTS ↘

I build on Anthropic's Claude and xAI's Grok — the right model for the job, named out loud. You'll always know what's running your business.

Straight answers

Questions the backcountry actually asks.

What does this cost?

Asking the AI Guy a question is free — no charge, no pitch. The AI Readiness Audit is a paid, fixed-scope engagement priced for a backcountry business; tell me about your operation and I’ll quote it. Building or integrating AI is scoped like any web-app project: a plain-language proposal, phases, prices, no jargon.

I already have software I like. Do I have to replace it?

No. A lot of the best AI work is wiring Claude or Grok into the tools you already run — your booking system, your books, your inbox — so you keep what works and gain what’s missing. If replacing something is genuinely the better call, I’ll say so; if it isn’t, I won’t.

Is my business data safe?

Yes. Every BTS build ships with application-layer encryption, immutable audit logs, and zero-trust auth, and I’m deliberate about what data ever reaches a model. The full security baseline is public — read it at /security.

How do I even know if I need AI?

You might not — and I’ll tell you that out loud. That’s the whole point of the free channel: a straight answer, even when the straight answer is “you don’t need it yet.” No AI guy worth trusting sells you something you don’t need.

What are Claude and Grok?

They’re the two AI models I build on: Claude (from Anthropic) for reasoning, writing, and analysis, and Grok (from xAI) for real-time data and speed. I pick the right one for the job and name it out loud — you’ll always know what’s running your business.

How long does it take?

A free question gets a straight answer within one business day. An audit is a short, fixed-scope engagement. Builds land in working phases — you’re using phase one while I build phase two — not a two-year reveal.

Take the thinking with you.
